On November 2, 2018, the Avenue 50 Studio will join forces with the Arroyo Arts Collective, the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council, the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce, La Culebra Action League, Mi Vida Boutique, DSTL Arts and CD 14 to present our very first Dia de los Muertos/Pumpkin Patch Festival at Culebra Park, 240 S. Avenue 57, Highland Park, 90042. We will gather at the Highland Park Senior Center, 6152 N. Figueroa St, Highland Park, 90042 at 3:30, and parade down Figueroa Street, led by Aztec Drummers and Dancers, to the Park. At 5:30 at Culebra Park, there will be an open mic for those who want to sing, play music, recite poetry, or have something to say. DSTL Arts will be hosting a ‘zine making workshop, and artist Margarita Medina will lead a papel picado table. A community alter will be set up for all who would like to honor their lost loved ones. The gente from Mi Vida Boutique will offer face painting. Pumpkins, courtesy HP Chamber of Commerce, will be given to the children. The youth from Grupo Folklórico Revolución will perform a lively number, and an art exhibit featuring works from students at Franklin High School. Refreshments will be provided by our local grocery stores and restaurants. Bring the kids, and be a kid! Costumes welcomed.
