NIGHT OF FANDANGO Y SON
Featuring The Sounds of
Los Cojolites and Son Mestizo
Los Cojolites are a collective of soneros who currently work and live together in Jaltipan, Veracruz, Mexico. They started in 1997 as a workshop studying regional dance, poetry and music known as Son Jarocho. “Son Jarocho” is the characteristic musical and dance expression of the region’s people. It’s a genre fusing three cultures that blends so flavorfully into today’s Mexico: Christian European, Muslim North African and Indigenous.
The name “Los Cojolites” come from a bird (Pencople purpurascens, Wagler), a kind of pheasant that was venerated as a god of the trees by the ancient Nahuatl speaking people.
