ABOUT AUTHORS

Tanzila “Taz” Ahmed is an activist, storyteller, and politico based in Los Angeles. Taz has spent the past 15 years writing poetry and has performed on stages everywhere, including at the White House. Her third poetry chapbook Emdash and Ellipses was published in early 2016.

Gabrielle Civil is a black feminist performance artist and writer, originally from Detroit, MI. She is the author of the performance art memoirs Swallow the Fish (2017) and Experiments in Joy (2019), both published by The Accomplices. The aim of her work is to open up space.

Jen Hofer is a Los Angeles-based poet & co-founder of the language justice & language experimentation collaborative Antena Aire. Jen’s most recent poem-essays address radical resource sharing, sanctuary, and the porous process of building queer family through the foster system.

Purvi Shah won the inaugural SONY South Asian Social Service Excellence Award for her leadership fighting intimate violence. Her new book, Miracle Marks, explores women, the sacred, and gender & racial equity. Her favorite art practices are her sparkly eyeshadow & raucous laughter.

TRANSPORTATION: Parking is available behind the building, enter through the unpaved driveway. Avenue 50 is also available via Metro Highland Park Station and Southwest Station stops, and by bus line 81 on Figueroa and Avenue 50. There is also street parking, though very limited.

ACCESSIBILITY: Space is accessible by wheelchair from the front entrance, bathroom has limited accessibility. Archways are narrow. Sound in the event space has some echoing. Though we do have parking, the ground is dirt, unpaved, and uneven. There is a separate space in the parking area that is suitable for accessible vehicles. There is also street parking.
