“For this exhibition, Currents, I have worked on twelve new paintings/collages that
are works in progress, like pages from a sketch book, that explore a range of
current events and social issues. I am deeply interested in the intersection of the
arts, communities, and social justice, and these new works focus on climate
change, genocide, the arts and culture, border issues, information dissemination,
sun violence, and more. I believe that the arts have the power to call attention to
important issues and additionally the arts have the power to transform lives and
hopefully change minds.” — Glenna Avila
