Ancestral Connections

Artworks for Ancestral Connections were selected by Chelo Montoya around the premise of artmaking as a communal gathering place. In her words —“each artwork provides a field of entry — a family tree as an iconic grounding force that reminds us of roots yet points to the sky and the spiritual, assemblage works that tell stories of past momentos and narrative portraits that honor generations of ancestors. The presence of fiber in many works speaks to the multiple threads of connection amongst the women artists in this illuminating exhibition. ” Montoya will offer a Curator’s Talk at the Opening Reception on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 4 pm. Founded in 1976, the mission of SCWCA is to create community through art, education and social activism.
