Title: Flower
Medium: Acrylic and gold pigment
Statement: Inspired by wild plants, their fertility, strength and ability to survive, I started a new, semi-abstract series of paintings depicting schematized flowers with seeds. This builds upon my previous series of work titled “Weed Always Flourish” dedicated to wild plants and the metaphoric meaning of weeds. Through these paintings I recognize the spiritual and shamanistic meanings involved in the process of creation, which is now more important than ever before. No matter how often these inconvenient, untamed and unwanted plants have been destroyed, contaminated and burned, weeds continue to grow, triggered by their own will. They are so rapid and successful that the struggle against them becomes in vain. They are wrongfully considered bad, harmful and purposeless, and as such they are outcast, judged and sometimes even razed – however, some of them are actually medicinal, some edible, but nevertheless – all of them ARE beautiful. I perceive savage meadows in a poetic and symbolic way, depicting in paint the amazing beauty of their diversity and triumph. The weed will always flourish!
