Ysamur Flores-Peña
Altar for Our Ancestors
Ysamur Flores-Peña publishes and lectures on Afro-Caribbean Ritual Art and Afro-Cuban religious cultures and Latino Folklore. He is a practitioner of the religion, a lecturer at WAC, Center for Afro-American Studies, and an Adjunct Professor at Otis College of Art and Design. Dr. Flores-Peña is co-author with Roberta J. Evanchuk of Santería Garments and Altars: Speaking Without a Voice.
Professor Flores-Peña’s altar honors the Lucumí tradition. Honoring the Ancestors is of primary importance in all Lucumí rituals and practices. The Ancestors come before the orishas and must be given their due attention and offerings.
