Please join us for the opening reception of ‘AMERICAN DAISIES,’ by Karen Duckles (presented by the Arroyo Arts Collective), on Saturday, July 13, from 7-10PM. Admission is free, light snacks & refreshments will be available for a $2-4 donation, valet parking will be available for a $5 donation, or we are located walking distance from the Highland Park Metro Gold Line Station! The title for this grouping of pieces is “American Daisies”, and they deal with the issue of gun culture in this country. The pieces utilize bullets, targets, rhinestones, and other items on framed wood panels. The assemblages tell stories about how we think about guns, and the issues surrounding gun violence. The beauty in the metallic bullets, the symmetrical targets and the sparkly rhinestones contrasts with the reality of the damage they can do and the sorrow they can cause.
