Artist Statement:

In 2014, I stayed at a family owned Neoclassical house/events venue called Mansion Magnolia in Guadalajara, Mexico for several months. I used the action of inhabiting the space as a starting point in my artistic process. On Inhabiting, seeks to convey the repetition of moments I experienced over time. This work was made upon my return to Los Angeles and represents a looking back on my experience.

The floor surface reflects and documents the daily happenings of the house and the life of the site as an events venue. With these works, I wanted to capture the ritual of walking through these spaces. The photographs are dark, with only the atmospheric light reflecting off the floors surface. It is the mood that I remember in association with each room and space that I became interested in, and that I wanted to express with the printed layer.

By printing on the photo surface, I wanted to create a layer over the photograph that allowed both the specific moment and the memory of the accumulated moments to converge through color and light and through matte and glossy. The combination of which becomes a depiction of memory.

Opening Night Reception: March 12, 2016 from 7-10 pm
